After 3 months stress out and pressure to looking for the right formulae and hormones to induced ovulation in Malaysian Mahseer, i found the novel finding how to breed them. I know how to differentiate the good and bad eggs that leading to the larvae quality production. The right answer depend on the eggs. The Ovaprim was not reliable and not effective to induced ovulation in F1 generation. There is a newly hormone that i found effective in inducing ovulation but still not recognise yet even though it already in the market.

This is the cement tanks that the place they rear the F1 breeders weigh between 2-6 kg. This system used is conventional RAS which used traditional brush as substrate for good bacteria binding. What i like most about this place is the way they maintain the system. Every morning they feed the fish with own made feed with ingredient consist of natural source such as Angkabang fruit, Emperang fish, Vit C, Squid oil which grind together as a mesh pellet. In the afternoon they remove or suck out the left uneaten feed out the tanks to avoid pathogen and give bad water quality. They are so hardworking and happy with their job.

The broodstock selection is important in order to get matured females and males to breed and produced good eggs and larvae quality.
(3)
Breeders were implanted with microchips before the experiment started. The picture above showed Ovaplant hormone implantation which the Ovaplant can improve gonad and ovary maturation prior to induction works.
You must be wonder who that guy which holding the fish and helping me together. He's not just a person, he is a Dr Stephen Sugan which already known as Kelah breeders expert. If you search article there are a lots of articles which he publish about Malaysian Mahseer. In this project he help me a lots.

The fish anaesthetization process is important to avoid any stress and give easy handling when the injection, hormone implantation and tagging. In my experiment i used MS222 with the right dose. I found that it save to used MS222 compare to other anaesthetic product. Why the water turn into yellow colour??? it is because i put Acriflavin which can cure injury and further pathogen infection after handling process.

In my experiment, i need collect fish blood at 0, 6, 12 and 24 hour post injection to observed hormone (Estradiol and testosterone) levels in the fish. This step is important to confirm the effectiveness of the hormones tested.
(6)
Fish fin clip was taken to test DNA to confirm the fish exactly F1 generation.
(7)
The breeders that can ovulate and produce good eggs were stripped into dry bowl and running ripped milt was stripped into the same bowl. Dry fertilization important to get optimized and higher fertilization rate. The stripped eggs were measure first using volumetric beaker before fertilization was done to calculate eggs and fecundity.
(8)
After dry fertilization, pour fresh water into the bowl and use chicken feather to mix it.
(9)
Different colour of Kelah eggs which rearing in cement tanks (right) and mud pond (left). Yellowish colour produce by breeders in mudpond because of the natural feed consume by them such as zooplanton, insect, fruit etc. Fertilization, hatching and survival rates result from both condition was no significantly different and not effect the eggs and larvae quality.
(10)
The eggs hatched after several days and produced cute babies with different colour.
(11)
The fry after hatching were distribute and separate depend on their breeders and treatments. The water flos slowly and using flow throught. The inlet water need to sterilized first using UV and ozon.
(12)
Not forget to kate water quality such as (DO, pH, TDS, Turbidity, Temperature etc.) daily to know suitable water quality for every stage of Kelah start from incubation period, hatching, rearing and broadstocks period).
(13)
Observed the egg development until they reach adult Kelah, the data and pictures were recorded.
(14)
Fish fingerlings which already reach certain stage were released into Cement tanks.
(15)
The adult fish which 10 months old.
